Robust Power System StabilizerIn recent bulk power systems, wide-area power oscillation is appearing as a serious problem according to the power system growth. Therefore, the design of Power System Stabilizer (PSS) is getting more important to restrain the fluctuations. Conventional PSSs, however, had several problems of the lack of robustness or the performance drop of controllability in nominal operations even when it has enough robustness. On the other hand, most PSSs working right now have been designed based on the standard form, its optimal design method is another practical problem. In this study, for this kind of standard PSSs, a new parameter setting method by using GA is proposed to improve the control performance. In addition, a new design method of robust controller based on Hinfinity theory is also proposed.
